The Boys & Girls Clubs of Wichita Falls is proud to announce the March Youths of the Month. Giovanni James, of the Central Branch, is the Kiwanis Club of Wichita Falls Youth of the Month. Fay Webb, of the Southeast Branch, is the Optimist Club of Wichita Falls Youth of the Month. David Brower, of the Central Branch, is the Rotary Club of Wichita Falls Youth of the Month.
Service clubs sponsor three age divisions. Kiwanis Club of Wichita Falls sponsors the 6-8 year olds. Optimist of Wichita Falls sponsors the 9-11 year olds. Rotary Club of Wichita Falls sponsors the 12-18 year olds. James Giovanni is the 8 year old son of Rebecca James. He attends the Central Branch where Mrs. Barbara Green is Club Director.
James has three brothers and one sister. He attends Overcoming Word Church where he participates in Sunday school and is involved with the youth group. James goes to Scotland Park Elementary and is in the 3rd grade. He is proud of his A/B average on his report card and enjoys Geography class more than any other. He says, “School is important because we learn a lot of cool stuff for our future.”
As a Boys & Girls Club kid, Giovanni is always the first person to help out in whatever department he is in. He gets involved in activities and programs all over the Club. Some these include Arts and Crafts, Photography, Power Hour Homework Help, Computer Tech, and Reading Programs. Giovanni also participates in Triple Play Challenges, Healthy Habits, swimming, and enjoys going to Camp Graham Ball.
Director Barbara Green said, “Giovanni displays great attitude & sportsmanship in all he does.”
Fay Webb is the 11 year old daughter of Julie Stanley and step-daughter of Justin Henderson. Fay’s home club is the Southeast Branch where Ms. Charlene Donaghey-Vomastek is the Director.
Fay has a sister who is 5 years old and two brothers ages 9 and 12. She does a great job of helping with the household chores and is often found helping her mom by keeping up with her brothers and sister. Fay also helps with meal preparations and cleaning up after meal time. She has also shown that she knows how to take out the trash and clean out the car.
Fay is a 4th grader at Southern Hills Elementary where she is maintaining a 3.5 GPA. Her favorite class is Physical Education and she says, “School is important because the teachers help me become smarter and when we are in groups. We help each other!” Fay is interested in helping people and she thinks she can best do that by learning to be a medical doctor. She plans to attend Texas Christian University.
Fay is a six year veteran of the Boys & Girls Club and has been very active in a variety of departments and programs during those years. She has enjoyed participating in the Fine Arts Program, Photography, Power Hour, Computer Tech, Reading Programs, Peer Leaders, and serves as a Junior Staffer to develop her leadership skills. Healthy Habits and Triple Play Challenges in the gym are other fun things she does as a member of the Club. As a Youth of the Month club leader she is always there to help manage special events and daily tournaments.
Director Charlene said, “Fay demonstrates a servant’s heart when interacting with other children at the Club!”
David Brower is the 12 year old grandson of Carlos and Ester Gomez. He attends the Central Boys & Girls Club where Mr. Charles Lonon is Assistant Branch Director.
David has a 10 year old sister and two brothers ages 9 and 11. He is a very big help to his grandparents.
David attends Wichita Falls Baptist Church and has been a member for the past seven years. He considers himself to be a very morally upright young man and prides himself in making good choices based on his spiritual up-bringing. James is also a civic minded teenager who has been active in a number of organizations including Boy Scouts, Parks & Recreation Programs, Race for the Cure, and 4-H Club. He has also been a regular at the annual Teens Make a Difference community service day.
As a home schooled teenager, David is at the 12th grade level and has worked diligently to maintain a high grade point average. His preferred subject is history. He also participates in theatre and plays the piano. James enjoys track and field, running cross country, basketball, and volleyball. He has been very active in the Homeschool Athletic Program at Southeast. James says, “School is important because knowledge is the future”.
David has also been a great junior staff in the Club. If staff members need help lifting, carrying, or cleaning anything James is always ready to assist. David loves playing pool, ping pong, carpet bowling, and foosball. He is also one of the members who sets up and takes down the volleyball nets before and after volleyball games and practices. David also assists in orienting new homeschool members to the Boys & Girls Club. He helps coach younger members who need improvement with their skills and techniques. His caring and influential leadership is astounding!
Assistant Club Director Charles Lonon said, “David is a wonderful member who takes pride in making sure his Boys & Girls Club is a better place, for all kids!”
