The Boys & Girls Clubs of Wichita Falls is proud to announce July Youths of the Month. Niara Dorsey, of the Southeast Branch, is the Kiwanis Club of Wichita Falls Youth of the Month. Breigha Pike,  of the Southeast Branch, is the Optimist Club of Wichita Falls Youth of the Month. Amaia Martin, of the Southwest Branch, is the Rotary Club of Wichita Falls Youth of the Month.

Service clubs sponsor three age divisions. Kiwanis Club of Wichita Falls sponsors 6-8 year olds. Optimist of Wichita Falls sponsors 9-11 year olds. Rotary Club of Wichita Falls sponsors 12-18 year olds.

Interviewers were Bob Hampton, representing the Rotary Club of Wichita Falls, and Matthew English, representing the Optimist Club of Wichita Falls, considered the following attributes while selecting the City Wide Youths of the Month:

Niara DorseyNiara Dorsey is the 9-year-old daughter of Lashaunda Dorsey. She attends the Southeast Branch where Mrs. Charlene Vomastek is Club Director.

Niara has one 9-year-old sister. She is good about keeping her room clean and helping with the house work. Sometimes she even helps with meal preparations and washing the dishes afterwards. Additional duties include helping with yard work, taking out the trash and helping with elderly family members.

Niara attends Southern Hills Elementary and is in the 2nd grade. She maintains A’s and B’s on her report card. She enjoys Mathematics class and says “school is important because it helps you learn”.

As a Boys & Girls Club kid, Niara is very active all over the Club participating a variety of activities and programs. Activities include Power Hour Homework Help, Photography, Arts and Crafts, Computer Tech, Triple Play Challenges and Healthy Habits. Reading Programs, volunteering as a Peer Leader, and swimming at Central are included in her long list of involvement while at the Club.

Niara believes in God and does nice things for others in his name! She attributes her honesty and kind hearted nature to God.

Director Charlene Vomastek said, “Niara focuses her attention on helping others with their problems. She is well behaved, cheerful, and helpful.”


Breigha PikeBreigha Pike is the 9-year-old daughter of Donny and Cari Pike. She attends the Southeast Branch of the Boys & Girls Club where Ms. Charlene is Director.

Breigha has two brothers, ages 5 and 10. She does a great job of helping with house chores and looks for opportunities to help with the family pet. She also helps with elderly family members.

Breigha is a 4th grade student at Southern Hills Elementary where she is maintaining a 3.5 GPA and puts math right up front as her favorite subject. Breigha believes school is important because “it helps me to learn more”.  She hopes to attend Midwestern State University someday so she can learn to be an elementary school teacher.

A Boys & Girls Club member for the past 4 years, Breigha has been active in Power hour, Club Tech, Photography and Fine Arts Programs. She also participates in the Reading Program, Peer Leaders, and is a member of the Junior Staff. Swimming and Triple Play Challenges in the gym are other fun things she does as a member of the Club.

Breigha has played Optimist Club softball for the past two years and is also involved with Campfire. She has been a member of Colonial Baptist Church for two years. She has volunteered to help pack gift bags for families in need.

Director Charlene Vomastek said, “Breigha is outgoing and is always smiling while trying to help someone in need!”


Amaia MartinAmaia Martin is the 13-year-old daughter of Staci Bailey. She attends the Southwest Branch of the Boys & Girls Club where Ms. Tori Smith is Director.

Amaia has one sister who is 18 years old and one brother who is 13. She does it all around the house. She not only cleans her room but also helps with the whole house. Amaia helps in the kitchen by cooking meals, cleaning up afterwards, and washing and putting away the dishes.  Amaia cleans the family car, washes, and puts away the laundry.

Amaia is a seven-year member of Heritage Assembly of God Church. Her spiritual beliefs are evident in her every day personal interactions. She is involved with Childrens’ Church and the youth group activities. Amaia has been involved in several Teens Make a Difference Day projects, volunteered at the Humane Society, the Homeless Shelter, and the Wichita Falls Food Bank.

As an 8th grade student at McNiel Jr. High school, Amaia maintain 3.5+ GPA. Her favorite subject is Language Arts and she is a member of the National Junior Honors Society. She also enjoys her time in the Choir, Arts Level II, and her Broadcast Journalism Class. Amaia hopes to attain her Master’s Degree at Texas A&M and to one day be a special needs teacher.

Amaia is very involved in her Boys & Girls Club. From her early days the signs of leadership were evident. She is a Peer Leader, a Junior Staffer, and a Torch /Keystone Club member. Amaia has won several awards in both Photography and Fine Arts Programs. She is a volunteer for Kids Café, a Power Hour Homework help volunteer, and she helps as a monitor on field trips. She is presently Vice President of the Torch Club and serves on several committees. Amaia is active in Reading Programs, Club Tech, and Smart Girls as well as Triple Play Challenges and Healthy Habits.

Southwest Boys & Girls Club Director Tori Smith said, “Amaia is a great helper and leader and capable of running departments even at her young age.”
