Optimist Club Christmas Party 2014

The Sunrise Optimist Club has provided the Boys & Girls Club members with the fun and excitement in the form of a Christmas Party. They have been providing this party for over 25 years. The kids are treated to pizza, drinks and dessert. The kids also get to see Artie Woods & McGruff the crime dog, then they are amazed by the Amazing magical act by Steve Mills and his lovely wife. Once the kids think they have had all the fun, Santa just so happened to be in town. Santa spoke with and gave a gift to all of the members, with the assistance of the ladies in the Sunrise Optimist Optimist Club. Upon leaving, the kids were also given a goodie bag filled with fruit, toothpaste, tooth brushes, coloring books, and candy. Supplies were provided with the assistance from local businesses such as United Super Markets, Wal-Greens, and Dr. Frech.

This event makes a lasting, lifelong impression. Christopher Vomastek participated when he was a little boy. He came this year as a volunteer! Christopher helped encourage the excitement and anticipation of the day’s activities. One little boy had to sit by Christopher for a picture with his “big best friend”. Christopher also helped some of the young members with drinks and anything else. He was left with such a great feeling from his childhood and this year he was touched as a volunteer, by the happiness from all of the children.

It is so heartwarming to watch the kids smiling, laughing and being amazed. Watching the kids open their gifts and the look at their faces is so fantastic!

What the Sunrise Optimist Club has done for well over 25 years is not for attention in the community, it is because they truly understand the meaning of Christmas.

About Craig Buckmore

I started with the Boys & Girls Clubs of Wichita Falls in November of 2000. At the time I had not worked for a non-profit and the organization had no formal IT plan. During my time with the organization, I have learned a lot about the non-profit sector and created a formal plan and direction for the organization. I have been working to create new ways to keep the members engaged with the organization leveraging existing and in some cases technology under development all while keeping costs as low as possible. I enjoy working with all aspects of technology from hardware, software, programming, team building, training, professional networking, and systems engineering. I am not a specialist in any one discipline but focus on finding or building technologies to further the organization while keeping the larger picture in mind. To that end, I never see an IT system as static but ever evolving and always in need of improvement.
