The Boys & Girls Clubs of Wichita Falls has chosen Lorenzo Boyd of the Southwest Branch as the 2016 Organization Wide Youth of the Year. Lorenzo is the son of Dakki Mack & Lorenzo Boyd Sr. Lorenzo Jr. is in the 10th grade at Rider High School.
Since 1947, Youth of the Year has been Boys & Girls Clubs of America’s premier recognition program celebrating the extraordinary achievements of Club members. Each year, one exceptional young person from a Boys & Girls Club rises to the role of National Youth of the Year. The National Youth of the Year serves as both an exemplary ambassador for Boys & Girls Club youth and as a strong voice for all of our nation’s young people.
The journey to being named National Youth of the Year begins locally and progresses to state, regional, and national levels.
Youth representatives from each of six Boys & Girls Club locations were interviewed on Thursday November 24, 2015 at the Administrative Offices of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Wichita Falls. The selection committee consisted of Jeff Pendley (Representing the Boys & Girls Clubs Alumni Association), Matthew English (Representing the Optimist Club of Wichita Falls), and Lisa Stephens/Musick (President of the Rotary Club of Wichita Falls).
2016 Branch Club YOUTH OF THE YEAR CANDIDATES were:
SEAN HALL, Southeast Branch. He is the son of Jim and Jean Hall. Sean is in the 12th grade in Home School.
LAWRENCE GIBSON, Northeast Branch. He is the son of Hope Gibson. Lawrence is in the 11th grade at Wichita Falls High School.
DYMETERION WADE, Northwest Branch. Dymeterion is the son of Latoya Kornegay. He is in the 11th grade at Hirschi High School.
ANJELICA CORONA, Central Branch. Anjelica is the daughter of Ramon Corona and Linsey Patterson. She is in the 9th grade at Wichita Falls High School.
JAELYN WASHINGTON, Rosewood Branch. Jaelyn is the daughter of Contina McNeely. She is in the 8th grade at McNiel Junior High School.
